The latest data show that US textile and apparel imports reached 6.22 billion square meters in Jan, up by 9.2% year-on-year but down 1.4% month-on-month respectively; the volume from China was 2,800 million square meters, up by 13.2% year-on-year but down 9.1% month-on-month.

Since 2020, statistics of January and February are released aggregately, so there is no accurate import and export data in Jan and Feb singly. It is initially estimated that Feb arrivals of imported cotton yarn will reach 141.6kt, down by 10.2% on the month and 9.8% on the year. Chinese traditional Spring Festival came in Feb, which affected the arrivals and consumption of imported cotton yarn. Homecoming and returning to work of migrant workers also affected downstream demand and arrivals. As a result, the actual arrivals were assessed lower.

Prices of PBT chip surged to 24,500yuan/mt in end-Feb from 12,950yuan/mt in early-Feb, with increment at 89% or 11,550yuan/mt. PBT POY50D and FDY50D increasing to 25,500yuan/mt and 28,000yuan/mt from 14,850yuan/mt and 17,750yuan/mt in Feb, with increment at 10,650yuan/mt (72%) and 10,250yuan/mt (58%) respectively.
